We will be working on MCAT courses that will hopefully be available within the upcoming months. In the meantime, here are some things you should know about the MCAT!
What is the MCAT?
The MCAT is the medical school admissions test for those looking to attend medical school in the USA. This test is needed for any student to get accepted to medical school. There are exceptions to this rule (this will be addressed in another post). This test will cover undergraduate level material in biology, biochemistry, general chemistry, organic chemistry, psychology, sociology, and critical reasoning. After taking the MCAT, it takes up to 4 weeks (depending on COVID) to grade. The MCAT is curved based on everyone who took that exact test that day. This means everyone in the world who took the test that day.
How long should I study for the MCAT?
This question varies on what you studied in undergrad and how well you did. However, the average student studies 3-6months and usually does not work while studying for this exam, making this their “full time” job.
When should I start studying for the MCAT?
Ideally you want to have this exam completed before the application cycle opens. There are 3 types of applications. MD, DO, and a separate application for anyone wanting to go to medical school in Texas.
-If you are looking to apply to MD schools: https://www.aamc.org
-If you looking to apply to DO schools: https://aacomas.liaisoncas.com/applicant-ux/
-If you are looking to apply to any school in Texas: https://www.tmdsas.com
All of these applications will open up in May and will close around April (each school is slightly different but for the most part similar). However, seats are offered on a rolling basis which means the first that submit their application will have a better chance of receiving an acceptance. Ideally you want this exam done by May since it does take a month to grade. Some students do take it in June or July and submit their application by August, but this can be risky.
I will be working on more posts with material and anki decks! Stay tuned!
