How realistic is it to balance school and part-time work?

How common is it for students to work part-time while studying? My understanding is that maximum hrs allowed is 20hrs/week but please correct if wrong.

-Understand there are limitations for Non-EU students in regards to type of work, but working itself is allowed.

-How many hrs on average do students spend on schoolwork in say, a day or a week? (including classes, homework, assignments, clinical rotations, exams, self-study).

-Does the year/grade of the student make any difference? (Since most students up to 2nd year study lecture based, 3rd-5th have clinical rotations, and final years are focused on thesis).
